Empowerment of girls and its importance
Every October 11, the World Body and its partners, including the girls’ empowerment workshop in Kolkata, commemorate Worldwide Week of the Girl and thus the enormous power that girls wield in our world. The subject for this year is "The Power of the Young-Girl: Vision for 2030," which emphasizes the role of girls in accomplishing global sustainable development goals. So said, we must reach out to girls to achieve our worldwide goals. This blog has shared reasons why we all should care about empowering adolescent girls.
She is correct
This is a matter of human rights. Abuse has no existence in the twenty-first century. Every girl has the opportunity to be educated, be protected from misuse, have access to health care, and be fully involved in her society.
Stronger families are the result of empowered girls
Families are healthier when girls are schooled, engaged, and empowered. According to UNESCO, increases in females' education saved 2.1 million children between the ages of five between 1990 and 2009. In addition, closing the gap in unmet family planning needs for the 225 million females who want to avoid unwanted pregnancy but don't use modern contraception would cut maternal and newborn deaths by 67 percent and 77 percent, respectively.
Resourceful girls are essential for families worldwide to break the cycle of poverty
According to data analysis from the Brookings Institution, each additional year of school improves a girl's future salary by 12%, which she then puts back into her family. Girls who are empowered and educated produce healthier, better-educated children and earn higher wages, which helps to break the poverty cycle. In this way, girls’ academic achievement in Kolkata will increase.
Empowered girls bolster strong economies
"Increasing the proportion of girls finishing higher education by just 1% could enhance a growth of the economy by 0.3 percent," according to a recent Brookings survey. In addition, according to a new analysis from the McKinsey Global Institute, if female work market participation were equal to men's, annual global GDP would increase by $28 trillion by 2025.
Didn't we say it was the correct thing to do?
One of the top activities we can do to build a healthier, more affluent world is to invest in girls. What's more, it's the correct thing to do. Every girl has the power to control her destiny and future, and it is our collective responsibility to defend her, protect and promote her well-being.
